The Pensions Schemes Bill 2025 is progressing through Parliament.
Over 50 of you amazing members (10% of our email list) sent letters to your MP and we are asking you to defend YOUR pension by keeping up the pressure with another letter, especially if you did not send one last time.
Success in this campaign means more money in YOUR pocket.
The CUKPA has become a member of the HPPA & PRE-97 ALLIANCE which has been formed to try and get the law changed so that the pre-1997 service element of your pension is increased annually, automatically, rather than solely at the discretion of Chevron.
We have an unprecedented opportunity to influence change for Pre-97 Pension Justice right now. CUKPA really needs you to write to your MP ASAP and copy certain influential people.
To help support our campaign and generate interest in our Pre-97 Pension Justice Campaign event at the House of Lords on 28 October, please “copy & paste” & personalise the letter set out below and send it to:

In addition to adding these names and addresses there are 2 sections in square brackets on lines 2 and 3 that I would be grateful if you could update – referring to whether you sent a letter last time and the number of years of pre-97 service that you have.

I am a pre-97 service pensioner whose pension is paid by CHEVRON UK and, as a member of the Chevron UK Pensioners Association (CUKPA), I am writing [again] to seek your help.
The element of my pension that relates to my [xx years of] pre-1997 service has had some increases over the years, but these increases fall significantly below the level of inflation over this period. Further, whilst any increases awarded continue to be at the discretion of my ex-employer, there is a very high risk that these increases could become even less frequent in the future.
As such my overall pension is now a lot lower than I had planned for, and I am very worried that the situation for pensioners like me will become significantly worse unless there is a change to the law to remove the employer discretionary element for this pre-1997 service.
The HPPA & PRE-97 ALLIANCE, of which CUKPA is a member, represents around 50,000 pensioners many of whom have had almost no pre-97 pension increases at all, but the pre-97 service issue is believed to impact around 750,000 pensioners in total.
The root cause is the Pension Act 1995 and the lack of requirement for pension indexation for service before 1997. As such, the Act allows employer discrimination against pensioners with service accrued before 1997. A number of schemes do not discriminate but some do, including my own. And of course it is legal at the moment.
Successive governments have ignored the injustice allowed by Pension Act 1995 in making the pre-97 service payments discretionary and I want you to help change that please, at no cost to the Government.
The Pre-97 Alliance does not support the Pension Schemes Bill 2025 as an effective means of delivering Pre-97 pension justice. Promises of future change via guidance, which is not legally binding, and a reactivated Pension Commission offer no assurance to pensioners in their twilight years.
The Pre-97 Alliance do support an amendment which is currently being drafted to remove the injustice created by the Pensions Act 1995.
Please support our campaign and the amendment to Pension Act 1995 to allow pension justice to prevail for Pre-97 pensioners by urging the Pensions Minister to look at the matter more sympathetically.
Instead of repeating the arguments against change since 1995, would you join us in making positive changes for the Pre-97 pensioners left behind? After all, there is no cost to government, and the economy will be boosted by the spend of pensioners and additional tax revenue generated.
FYI – Lord Bryn Davies will be sponsoring an informal event on Wednesday 29th October 2025 from 5 to 6.30 pm in Committee Room 4, Palace of Westminster, to speak face-to-face with pensioners from around the UK.
