CUKPA Joins the HPPA and Pre-97 Justice Alliance

The Pension Bill 2025 seeks to liberalise what companies can do with surplus pension funds including extracting them from the funds. These are surpluses that contain the hard worked earnings of pensioner’s contributions and the investment returns on them.

Meanwhile, pensioners with pre-1997 pensions have had minimal increases that fall far behind inflation.

The HPPA (Hewlett Packard Pensioners Association, who have NEVER had an increase for inflation) are lobbying MPs and Government Ministers to pass amendments to the Pensions bill that would force automatic, annual increases to match the post 1997 pension laws.

The Pre-97 Justice Alliance is a grouping of several pensions associations in a coordinated campaign to change the law.

CUKPA members are being asked to email their MPs and key influencers seeking support for the amendments to achieve this change, and have been sent an email with a pre-composed letter.

However, some 200 members do not have a valid email on their membership record!

Success in this campaign will increase everyone’s pension who have pre 1997 contributions. Join the campaign for better pensions and send your letter today!

Insight 51 and other updates

The latest edition of Insight, our in house pensioner’s newsletter, is now available and the Archive of Chevron’s Retiree News has been updated, Both are available under Association News on the website menu.

There have also been some other tweaks around the website. A full review of content is underway to ensure you have up to date information.

Actions have been taken to improve the delivery of Newsletters to avoid spam accounts.

CUKPA Emails to Members in Spam

Recent changes to spam identification by Yahoo, Gmail and other email providers means that CUKPA emails sent to members may end up in your Spam folder.

If you find your email from CUKPA in Spam you need to do two things.

1. Mark it as Not Spam
and
2. Move it to your inbox

To avoid future emails going to your Spam folder it may help to add the sending email address to your address book/contacts.

Proposed appointment of Single Entity Trustee

It has come to our attention that the Company intends to make changes to the Trustee arrangements to the Chevron UK pension plan.

This will entail replacing the existing Trustee Board with a professional, single entity Trustee, appointed by the Company. This also means there will no longer be Member Nominated Directors (MND’s).

This action raises many questions. We have been in contact with the current Trustee Board and can reassure members that every effort is being made to ensure a smooth transition and safeguarding for all stakeholder’s rights under the Plan.

iv. Item 5. QUORUM – At any General Meeting the Quorum shall be seven (7) members present, attending either in person or online.

Our First Friday Morning Zoomy Coffee Chat

June 14th 11am was our first online social event!

We had interest from 18 members with 11 members attending at the peak from Cornwall to Aberdeen and Liverpool to South East England and a few in between. A modest but comfortable start to an event we hope will increase in popularity as word gets around.

A couple of people did have some difficulties connecting and we will get in touch to see if we can resolve those for future meetings.

Past roles included managing North Sea oil platforms and meeting again a maintenance technician from the same platform over 40 years later. Engineering, Marketing, IT and Refinery personnel were also represented.

A few retirement interests included kayaking, 17ft steam boats, model railways, touring by motor bike and volunteering as signalman and station master on heritage steam railways. Fencing (the sport…), and touring in mobile homes. Some were fully engaged with the community being local councilors and chairs on the committees of various charitable and local bodies.

There was even advice about dating at the age of 90 having lost their life partner!

An item of common interest was the cost of insurance for travel (rather high) and motor cars with NFU Mutual being regarded as a helpful and economic provider, unless you live in certain areas of Suffolk!

Together with offers of assistance to people at home, with suitable DBS clearance, there were other interesting suggestions that the Committee will take up with the company and consider in future.

All in all it was a productive and pleasant couple of hours and it was agreed to hold another in early Autumn.

Update to Chevron Pension Fund Trustees

With the unfortunate passing of Trevor Jones and Dave Poulter standing down, elections were held for new Trustees of the Chevron Pension Fund.

Alan Dennison, who is also a Committee member of our Association, and Gregor Cameron were elected in June 2023.

Gregor Cameron as well as Stewart Wright are former Chairs of the Trustee Board.

Latest Insight Newsletter Published, Emails, and Membership System Update

The Spring 2023 Insight has been published and is available online at this page where you can read it or download it.
The link has been emailed to all members for whom we have a valid email address.

If you have not received an email from us it may mean we have an out of date email address for you. We know of one retired member who is still registered with his Chevron work email! You can update many of your Membership details online but to change your email address please contact us through the Contact page.

When you receive any bulk emails from us you will note that they now include your new Membership Number. We ask that you use this in your bank Payment Reference to aid our Treasurer. Please see the latest email for information or, again, reach out via the Contact Page.
